Kluges Guest Farm
Situated south of Fort Portal and just a few kilometers off the Fort Portal to Kasese highway, Kluges Guest Farm was originally conceived as a commercial farm operation. However, over the last 20 years, Mariam and Stefan Kluge gradually converted the property into one of the most advanced owner-operated eco-lodges in Uganda. The lodge features 8 bungalows and 2 large family cottages with a total of 12 double / twin rooms featuring en-suite amenities to international standards. In addition, the lodge locale is complemented by one of the most advanced camping facilities in Uganda. And all that marvel is situated on 70 acres of tropical forest and extensive botanical gardens.
Due to its strategic location, major tourist attractions such as the Kibale National Park and its chimp troops, the wondrous alpine landscapes of the Rwenzori Mountains National Park, and the dense tropical forests of the Semuliki National Park are within a short drive of the lodge. Other attractions in the region include the Sempaya Hot Springs, the Amabere Caves, hiking adventures to the nearby Crater Lakes, and a visit to the Bigodi Wetlands Sanctuary, adjacent to the Kibale National Park. Fort Portal itself also offers the opportunity to visit the palace and parliament of the Toro Kingdom, the Botanical Gardens on the outskirts of town, and the Fort Portal Golf Course.

Restaurant & Bar
Our main restaurant is called ‘Ggava Mukulya’, which is a Luganda proverb meaning ‘strength comes from food’, and features an a la carte menu in addition to delicious buffets. Our cuisine is based on farm produce with home-grown vegetables and freshly baked bread served daily. We believe that guests deserve nothing but the best, and travelers who have been to Kluges Guest Farm praise the food as one of the best in the region.
Lounge & Fireplaces
Our lounge is situated next to the restaurant and is built in the shape of a pavilion. It features a view of our beautiful gardens and provides visitors with the setting for relaxed afternoon coffee or tea. The cozy safari-style lounge chairs and sofas are complemented by a central fireplace that provides just the right kind of warm atmosphere during the cool evenings of the Rwenzori highlands. In addition, the outdoor fireplace, situated in front of the restaurant, is an essential aspect of the African safari experience. Here travelers and guests converge for the evening sundowner to share their experiences and adventures of the day.
Swimming Pool, Botanical Gardens & Nature Trails
The exceptional combination of our botanical garden complemented by the surrounding tropical forest attracts a wide variety of birds and animals, including vervet and Colobus monkeys. Also, in addition to many colorful butterfly species, birds such as the crested crane, sunbirds, hornbills, and turacos are a common sight in our spectacular gardens. Here, our visitors can enjoy extended walks in the forest revitalizing their spirits in peace and calm.
In addition to the nature walks, you can visit the farm kitchen and spice garden or venture on a guided village walk and experience local lifestyles. And for those interested in hiking tours to the lower elevations of the Rwenzori mountains or visiting the chimp troops of the Kibale forest, our knowledgeable staff is ready to provide you with the most relevant information and opportunities.
Alternatively, you can relax at the poolside while watching the colorful birds in the trees above. The swimming pool locale also features a separate children’s pool and an elevated veranda with a view of the tropical forest beyond. In addition, many consider Kluges Guest Farm one of the most family-friendly places in Fort Portal, as children can frolic about in our playground, botanical gardens, and spacious lawn areas.
